About Us
Our story begins in the early 1980’s. After gaining accounting experience by working for a local CPA firm and then sharing her knowledge by teaching at Kauai Community College, Carol Ozaki felt that she could add even more value to the community by launching her own bookkeeping company. In 1984, she set up an office in the Senda Building in Lihue Town where she could meet individuals and small businesses and help them organize their financial books.
Fortunately, after one year, Carol’s small business grew to the point where she needed help. Coincidentally, Juli Arruda had just relocated to Kauai and needed a job. Juli applied for the position, and Carol hired her on the spot. The two women clicked and it created a synergistic business environment. As their clientele expanded, they needed a larger office space and moved to the Sasaki Honten building on Elua Street.
Today, Carol and Juli (hence, C & J), continue to be the best of friends and business colleagues. The company continues to evolve and adapt to the ever-changing business landscape by incorporating new technologies. However, at its core, the company has not forgotten its roots and continues to empower people to achieve financial success.
Meet Our Team
CAROL OZAKI
A true born entrepreneur who grew up in the heart of Lihue, Carol is dedicated to serving members of her community. As a child she learned many savvy business skills from her father who owned multiple companies. So it was only natural that after she graduated from UH Manoa with an Accounting Degree that she would go on to start her own successful company.
Although she is “semi-retired” she is still a vital part of the C & J culture, and a huge asset to our team during tax season, where she services many core clients that have been with the company since the early days.
Outside of work, you’ll find her continuing to serve her community as a Board Member for both Lihue Hongwanji Mission and Gather Federal Credit Union. She also enjoys sewing, baking, walking early in the morning with neighborhood friends, and spending time with her grandchildren.
JULI ARRUDA
A charming book-worm with a creative edge, Juli draws upon decades of experience in tax and accounting. Her warm smile and ability to connect with clients makes her a star to the team.
Growing up in Honolulu, Oahu, Juli attended Kamehameha Schools and later received a Fine Art Degree from UH Manoa. When she began working for C & J she found that her creative skills mixed with smarts gave her a leading edge. Her role has since evolved, and now as owner, she leads the company and develops strategies to promote new growth opportunities.
When she’s not advising clients at the office, Juli enjoys reading books, watching Netflix, and playing puzzles or games. Her pride and joys are her two grand-daughters which she loves spoiling.
JENNIFER PARR
An MBA graduate with a fresh perspective, Jenn joined the C & J crew in 2017, and now serves as a key member of the team. She is especially drawn to technology-based solutions and is always dreaming up new ideas to maximize work efficiency and accuracy.
Before landing at C & J, she worked as a staff auditor for a large CPA firm in Portland, OR, as well as an internal accountant for a beauty product company in Venice, CA. She has a Masters Degree in Business Administration from Willamette University, and a Bachelors of Science Degree in Mathematics from University of Redlands.
When she’s not keeping C & J on the forefront, you’ll find her at a local park or beach chasing after her two very active daughters. Her goal is to be able to take her kids jet setting around the world, as well as teach them to be little money gurus.
